IP Valuation
IP valuation is a process in which the value of your IP assets is determined. IP valuation is beneficial in cases where you want to commercialize you IP assets. The main purpose of getting an IP is to exploit that particular asset and consequently earn profits from them.
Therefore it is crucial to know what the value of your each IP asset is. There are mainly three ways in which the value of your IP is determined. These are:
- Market based – In this the value of your IP assets is determined by looking at the value of IPs which are similar to IP.
- Cost based – In this the value of your IP is determined by looking at the cost used in creating that particular IP.
- Income based- In this the value of your IP is determined by looking at the income that your IP is generating and by looking at the income that your is expected to generate in the future.
However, valuation of IP is a complex procedure. There are many factors that determine the value of your IP such as the value of IP asset that is owned by the competitor, uniqueness of your IP asset etc. Basically, the value of each IP asset that you own is based upon the strength of your IP which grows or diminishes over the period of time.
